If it turned okay before the gear change you ended up with no shaft endplay after putting the pin in the replacement gear. Or let the shaft push toward the point plate and mess the weight guard up. Also find them that someone used to long of screw in the condenser or point contact mount and mess the guard or other things under the breaker plate. If you have end play, remove points and the terminal post from the distributor. Then the 2 cap clip screws and one other from the side of the distributor. Lift the breaker plate out then check guard, springs, weights and the weight pins. Shaft can be removed from the body after the drive gear is removed.
