The 966 and 1066 both had the same motor. The only difference was the 1066 had the turbo charged DT414 and the 966 had the naturally asperated D414. All The 66 series tractors shared the same fuel pump and injectors with different settings. I'd change the fuel filters before messing with anything. Had the same problem this fall. As for the rearend, it should handle the power as much power as you give it as long as you don't get too much traction. How do you think those alcohol powered tractors keep their rearends in one piece. Those tractors are putting out up to several thousand horsepower with near stock rearends. Put the whole time their going down the track, their tires are spinning like crazy. If you have your tractor dualled and fluid in the tires and pull the living heck out of it, I would listen to the mechanic. They ussually know their customers and what they do with the tractor. Their not stupid and do know what their talking about.
