It sounds like the TA clutch is slipping. You need to check the adjustment on the linkage. Review this in the OM to make sure it is fully releasing. This is rather tricky. So do it by the book.
As for plowing more with it slipping, this isn't good. If it were mine and I didn't want to split it, I would adjust it first. Then try it. If it is still slipping stop. If it is just slipping when you let the TA back to high, don't use the TA. Plow like you ain't got one. If it lugs down, drop a gear.
