Air was pulled in the louvres around where the jar screws in, and entered rotating in a swirl. That swirl continued over to a smaller swirl above the glass jar, where larger debris, dead grasshoppers, road debris, leaves, green tractors, etc, collected in the center of the swirl, and dropped in. You can see how well it works; drop some dirt into a 5-gallon bucket of water, get it swirling around real good, and wait --- debris will collect in the ctner, and drop to the bottom. Some tractors [my 1950 H] have the original rubber O-ring that sits above the jar, to seal it, it reads "66776-D United States America".
