I'm not sure about IH, but John Deere tractors made late in the year were the following year model. For instance the 20 series, 520, 620, ect, the first one's were made in the fall of 1956. All of the 20 series were 1957 and 58 models, with the exception of the 420, some of which were made from late 55 through 58.
