Transmission Fluid not hy-tran....Help?

I recently bought an International 424 and upon draining the transmission I believe that the previous owner did not use the recommended hy-tran. The fluid appears to be gear oil of some sort no way to trace it back. What should I put back in? I might be afraid to mix the remaining with hy-tran. For the little that I used it before I drained it everything appeared to work fine.
