1) If it has a Voltage Regulator and its field current control relay points are stuck closed, that could cause it. (I don't think it has a Low High headlight charge control system (but Ive seen all sorts of farmer modifications out there), but if it was always in high that can cause it or the wires shorted coming from FLD on genny
2) If the wire from FLD on Genny to FLD on VR was shorted out, another possible cause.
3) If the gennys Field is shorted near its output (wires to FLD Post inside) or if the FLD post was overtightened cracking the insulation causing it to short, that may cause it, or simply the wire from FLD is shorted somewhere.
4) Sure the battery itself is okay with no bad or shorted cells.
