Are you trying to put the pump back in the reservoir and get the shafts re-engaged? The easiest way I have found is to pull the pump control lever into the latched position (lever on pump will move toward front of tractor). Then rotate the shaft on the reservoir almost fully forward. This is with the reservoir on its front and the shaft will want to rotate that direction anyway. Then you can lower the pump assembly into the reservoir and slightly left and then once down it should slide a little to the right and the two will be engaged. You can confirm by then rotating the control shaft with some big pliers and it should pop back into the bypass mode.
