If I lose prime on a diesel, I apply a vacuum on the return line and crank. If the motor has a priming pump, I will use that instead of the starter. Syphon feed sandblasters or cup type paint spray guns make a good vacuum source. Usually both are unavailable and I use my mouth. If you have some spare hose that can be added to the return line, use it to keep the diesel out of your mouth. stomac or lungs. If none of this appeals to you, I suggest that you fix or repair the primer. If that is not an option, you could permanently add a small electric fuel pump ahead of the primer pump. The key to all these approaches is to make sure that fuel is returning to the tank.
