I am currently working on a 1949 M that i have. The pilot bearing on the trans main shaft went bad.
In the process of fixing this ive ran into alot of other problems, my biggest being the bearing cage for the bull pinion shaft is quite worn and the bearing is very sloppy in the cage.
This is my question, i have found a M near me for sale that has been partly scrapped out but the rear end is all intact. But it has a serial number 17,xxx which makes it a 1940. Looking at case parts online there seems to be some differences in parts between the earlys and later ones. Anybody have an idea how many parts would interchange? I also have a 42 M with a clunk in the rear end (presumed bad bullgear) that i plan to fix this winter and thought this scrapped one would be good for getting parts for both.
