pulling 10 20 flywheel

Has anyone had luck pulling the flywheel off a 10 20 engine without removing the key first. Having trouble with both. Can't figure out what kind of thread is in the key. Seems like neither coarse nor fine thread fits. Is the key threaded into the flywheel and crank also or just pressed in? Thanks for the help. Ron
