Went to look at a neighbors recently acquired '48 H. First thing I noticed was that it wasn't a '48. It has the "new" type front bolster (with the "hitch pin holes" at the corners, battery under the seat, disk brakes & live hydrualics. I figure it to be a '54 Super by the serial #29279. In looking at some books since I returned home, I've seen some super's with the old style bolster, when did they change, or is those incorrect? Also, this tractor had been setting for an unknown # of years in a shed that eventually fell down around it. It doesn't appear to have ever been painted, but looks like it's been pulled from a swamp. The paint & decals have just peeled off. It's just about bare metal (& green slime). The rear axles & wheel weights are black. Were they painted like that from the factory? Scraping doesn't uncover any red. 3rd, were the firecrater pistons available in a new tractor, or were they strictly a later upgrade? Happy tractoring!
