If your tractor is still using a generator look in Research & Info on the left side of the screen. Then find Article Archives in that section and click on it. There are two types of generators used on tractors. You would most likely have a Third Brush type so click on the Third Brush Generators article. There's a schematic at the bottom of the article.
If it turns out you have a two brush generator, use the Two-Brush Generators article instead.
If you have an alternator, find out if it's internally regulated or not. You may not need a regulator at all. If you do need a regulator, I would consider replacing the alternator with a GM 10Si alternator that is internally regulated. It will work forever without any maintenance or problems. In that case, use the article A Step-by-step 12-Volt Conversion by Bob M. It's excellent and there's a schematic at the bottom of it too.
