I assume you have 2 holes on the head stripped as opposed to 2 studs that need repairing. If it is the former then the helicoil fix when done properly will probably be stronger than the original hole thread. I suggest that you go get a helicoil kit (at auto parts, sears, machine tool supplier) first (about $15). The kit will come with coils installation tool and tap for re-threading the hole to the proper size for the coil. If the hole is already stripped you probably will NOT need to drill to size first. Be careful to start the tap square. By the way, if the bolts are loose the manifold is probably NOT straight and really should be trued. I personally don't like exhaust manifold gaskets, but if it originally had one, be sure to us a new one. Most of the time I true the manifold, clean the head and bolt the manifold on without a gasket. Believe it or not, the no manifold gasket repair lasts longer. I the manifold is rough, the gasket is the way to go.
