Yes, there were add-on filters you could buy from places like tractor supply. One type had an aluminum housing and used a simple roll of toilet paper for the filter! Yours looks bigger than that. I have seen them your size but not lately. I think i have one of the toilet paper ones up overhead in the shed. Oil filters were not installed from the factory until 1929.
