You can't plumb into the "input" side and make it work, because it's an "open center" system, meaning when the valve spools are centered, the oil is constantly flowing through the valve from pump to sump. There is virtually no pressure on the input port until you move a valve spool to push a cylinder ram. The "power beyond" option takes the return port and allows any unused flow to be used on any remaining open center valve spools in the system, such as your fast hitch. This is called a series connection. Trying to put two open center valves in parallel won't allow either to work, as there will always be a loop flowing to the tank from one or both valve blocks.
