IH 107 garden tractor

I know this isnt the exact place, but I thought more people with knowledge of IH look here. This is also in garden tractors forum. we have a 107 hydro that has a Drive/release lever on it. we got the motor running and I hoped up on and put it in reverse. nothing. foreward, nothing. not even a whine (my 1250 will whine) like all hydros I've driven do. we filled rearend full of hy-tran and tried again. still nothing. is the release my problem? were these troublesome? I wonder, as my 1250 dose not have a release. BTY we found a piece of broken spring steel in the bottom of the fan housing. Is that from release? thanks a million.
