I use permatex no. 2 the non hardening one. Coat surface of oil pan with permatex, then apply gasket and let set for 2-3 hours so it sets up good. Then apply permatex to gasket surface going toward block. IMHO, suface of pan needs to be totally flat, without dips or warps, etc. Fill in with jb weld if necessary. Torque is probably 20 lbs. or so. Torque evenly around pan starting in the middle of each side. Do a retorque several times.
