Missing is rarely carb. I would check and adjust valve clearances regardless of miss even if it ran perfect on a new to me tractor that is this old. Look for bent pushrod from a stuck valve when you do this. ( pushrod can be straightened in a pinch)
Some new plugs are sometimes bad out of the box. If you can determine which cylinder is missing by pulling wires and listening to engine then try new plug in that cylinder. ( I always keep my old plugs that I know were firing to use for testing if nothing else)
If missing is random across the board and moves around to different cylinders then I would suspect condenser. Even new ones are sometimes junk. (again I always keep my old working condensers to use for testing if nothing else).
Coils can cause missing too but less rare and they usually act up when hot.
When you gapped your points did you run a piece of brown paper bag, business card, or even a dollar bill through them afterwards to clean up oil residue from feeler gauges? Lots of people oil their feeler gauges to prevent rusting and this oil residue can cause problems on the point contacts.
Compression test will tell the story too if you suspect burnt valve...
Have never heard of stainless wires. Copper cored wires were always the type of choice for these old tractors.
