Tim, The Product Identification Committee Decision No. I37 dated Sept. 7, 1956, clearly states that on the side of the hood of all Farmall and International tractor models in production at that time a Harvester White decal was to be applied under the hood name plates. I am sure the use of the decal was to eliminate the need for masking and painting two different colors on a single piece of sheet metal. At the bottom of page 2 of this decision there is a paragraph which states "The McCormick and McCormick International name plates are to have a Harvester White background instead of Harvester Red". We are just trying to assist the OP with what the original paint colors and scheme would have been on an original 230 tractor. It is possible you may have seen a restored tractor that someone painted the background since the original Harvester White decals were no longer available anywhere and paint was used to provide the color for the nameplate background. These originals of the decisions archived at the Wisconsin Historical Society are of a great benefit in documenting the actions of this committee more then a half a century earlier, Hal.
