Agree with Alan that the TA is a problem area reported by many IH and Farmall owners. Would add that perhaps the most commonly neglected and certainly important thing to do in avoiding problems in this area is to keep the clutch and TA levers (they interact) adjusted properly. The procedures for this are covered in detail in the owner's manual, among other places. If you've got clutches slipping, you're going to have problems. I looked at several tractors before purchasing my 300U, and half of them had these adjustments wrong - from which I conclude that this is a very commonly neglected maintenance item. Also would like to emphasize the importance of spending a few buck for the manual(s), especially the owner's manual. I don't think you have much chance of properly maintaining the tractor without it.
