Somewhere along the life of my F14, the cooling fan bearing assembly was obviously leaking oil from the cork washer. I say this because when I disassembled it last night it was full of bearing grease, not oil as I was informed it should have been. It looks like the thrust washer was worn as well because I could slide the fan ~1/2" front and back on the bearing.
Question is, I can get a thrust washer, cork washer, ect for under $10. But, can I actually repair this assembly or I am money/time wise to shell out the $80+ for a whole new assembly? Has anyone ever tried to repair one of these? I have the parts manual so I can figure out all of the parts that I think I need, but whether I can actually repair it I'm not so confident in given that its supposed to be sealed. :?:
