I believe the modelers (the global warming people) use the last 30 years for their data(National Weather Service uses 30 year averages changed every 10 years, so the global warming people use 1980-2010). My statistics professor in college used the comment for modeling with a computer as "garbage in, processed garbage out" -- My opinion on global warming.
