There exists a multitude of books produced for each major brand of tractor built in the USA. The above would be your best starting point, and once you have narrowed your interest to a particular model or year, then search the internet for reference material pertaining to it specifically.

Do not get discouraged, all of us started the exact same place you are now, none of us were born with this knowledge. I have learned the most by taking the time to listen to people at tractor shows that actually grew up on and used these machines daily. They are a wealth of information.

I would read as much as I could prior to beginning any restoration. Once you decide, let us know & we will get you started on the right foot.
