With that info I will suggest a cam gear has broken. That is a much more serious issue. Checking the valve timing is not hard, (if the distributor timing is as it was, putting the engine on TDC #1 and looking to see where the rotor is pointing will be definitive. If it is not at #1 plug terminal, The cam gear is wasted. Jim
