on my M i used a carrage bolt w/ a sring on the back side straight through the hole , you could make a lever to do what you want , seen that many time, the button boxes are on e-bay all the time fairly cheap , they actual where part of the factory kit to add electric start , so would be original too , just need longer cables , not sure if your looking to be original but seen lots of great ideas at shows people have made to suit themself , its always fun to make the correct police scratch there head.
