Josh,

This is just a personal opinion but I would much recommend a 1456, 1466, or 1566 over the V8 1468 or 1568. The 1466 and 1486 tractors had just come out when I stopped selling new IH equipment so I didn't have any long term contact with it. The 550 V8 engine was set up to run on four cylinders when not under load then run on all cylinders under load. The 1456 tested 118.35 pto hp in Nebraska test 1048, the 1466 tested 126.91 pto hp in Nebraska test 1125, and the 1468 tested 128.72 in Nebraska test 1118, the 1566 tested 140.35 in Nebraska test 1174, and the 1568 tested 133.79 pto hp in Nebraska test 1175. Although the horsepower ratings were simular, the 436 six cylinder engine appeared to have much more torque in the field. I also believe the service history of the 550 V-8 was not real good in the field from what I hear. The 436 six had an excellent service record.
