The 622 was introduced in 1971 as a higher capacity picker than the 422. It had a 301 cu in gas or LPG engine or a 310 cu in diesel engine. The early models had a varable speed belt drive and then hydrostatic drive was offered in 72 and came standard in 73. (The 422 had a 263 cu in gas or LPG and a 282 cu in diesel with a standard 4 speed transmission). It is 20 spindles high whereas the low drum version (616)is 14 spindles high. I forget the basket capacity but it was much larger than the 422. Early 622's had the basket compactor optional and it was standard in later models. The 622 hydrostatic was probably the best picker ever for extremely heavy yield big stalk cotton as it had both excellent capacity and would pick the stalk clean as well as putting an extremely clean sample in the basket. The 18.4 x 34 tires and the standard 11.00 x 24 rear tire gave it good flotation which made it a pretty good mudder espessially with a Mud Hog atachment on the guide wheel. The only ones to avoid are the early ones with the variable speed belt drive as they did not perform as good as the hydrostatic and the drive also gave trouble. The head was also beefed up after the first year although most of the early ones had the improvement package installed by the dealers. Hope this information helps.
