Whether or not to convert depends. If you want best reliability and lowest maintenance cost (i.e. you're gonna use the tractor for work), a 12 volt alternator conversion is the only way to go. On the other hand, a well-maintained 6 volt system will start a well-maintained tractor under almost any condition. And a stock 6 volt system is necessary for a historically "correct" restoration if that's how the tractor was originally equipped. Finally, there's just something cool when a 6 volt tractor engine makes 3 or 4 halting half revolutions, then lights off.
