Carburetor jets

There have been large numbers of posts regarding spark plug fouling. I have no experience with most of the tractor models mentioned with this problem, but have given the issue some thought. Suppose some previous owner of a tractor with fixed orfice (non-adjustable) high speed carburetor jet enlarged the hole in the jet through careless cleaning or on purpose? That could cause fouling. Perhaps part of the carburetor servicing procedure should be to verify the main metering jet size. For one of my tractors, that information is given in the service manual (reprint of IH manual) purchased from one of the popular suppliers. I'll end with a question. Suppose that new jets are no longer available. What about soldering the hole closed and redrilling to the correct size?
