what is the short large wire.where does it go.i think you should set you vom to ohms.touch one test lead to ground,touch other lead to the starter battery cable terminal.you should not get a reading,or curcuit.this i believe should be a 12 volt system.then you should only have 3 wires that go to the starter.the battery cable,the wire with a large term.that supplies power to the dash,and the start wire from the push button switch,to the start term. of the solenoid.is this what you have?
