Spark Arrester

I purchased a used gas manifold to replace the distillate manifold on my International A. It has a spark arrester on it. The arrester has three holes on the side. In my parts manual they do not show. One has a bolt in it, the other has a fitting screwed into it (and probably a 1/2" hose or something could be screwed on) and the third hole is unfilled. Anybody know what they are for; perhaps they originally were all unfilled or not!!??
