for those interested in the shear strength specs..
1/4" bolt in a single shear configuration, as this one is... minimum shear strength in pounds for gr2 is 2179.2#, gr5 is 3533.8#, and gr8 is 4417.2.
there are 2 fasterners holding this bracket... double value, then derate 20% for a safety rating.
ultimate tensile strength will be 74000psi, 120000psi, and 150000psi for gr 2,5,8.
if I get axial fractures due to more than 3400# of shock loading on that tool box bracket.. then when i replace the (2) gr2 bolts I'll move up to gr5.. and get 5600# of shock load capability on the fastener axis.. if that don't do it.. I guess I could put in gr8 and get a whopping 7000# of shock load to play with...of course.. I expect the rest of the tractor to be junkyard material mind you after those kind of shock loads.. but.. :)
remember.. few bolts hold on the nose clip on and it weighs a considerable amount more, with not much more total shear strentgh of fasteners in comparison to weight.
the fender brackets are an even dicier setup as they can be in double shear.. and tensile strength goes DOWN as fastener size goes up. ( shear str does go up though.. )
