On a previous thread I brought attention to my Ford 4000 8 speed transmission that has a broken 4th/8th shift fork. The fork dropped to the bottom of the transmission case. I was told a rear split will be necessary to remove the rails and reassemble the rails and forks.
1) Is there anything that really needs to be disconnected during a rear split?
2) How do parts #5 and #6 connect (parts diagram photo). I am trying to wrap my head around how the shift rod and fork disconnected - are they welded, threaded, or just held in place by the other components?
