Although I grew up in Indiana, I almost went to Mississippi State, or at least my dad wanted me to. We had an older, distant relative who lived in Starkville and Dad went down there to visit a few times in the late '40s/early '50s.
The older relative's last name was Bowles (pronounced "ballas") and one of his daughters was married to a Mose Cooper, who had something to do with MSU. There's probably still some descendants of them around those parts.
