When my Mama was growing up in the late 20"s-early 30"s , she and her sisters had to clean the chitlins!! Sometimes when they got bored they"d sneak in a piece of corn to see if any of the grownups were paying attention and they usually were. I "ve still got one of the the old wooden handled hair scrapers out in the garage. I sure miss her and her fried chicken from years ago before her health declined and she stopped cooking for the whole family!
