Those shifter boots are tricky. On the 3 that I've replaced ( 8n, naa and 2n ) I've used three different techniques. On the 8n, I used 2 2-finger tongs I made out of steel rod.. stretched it over and let it pop in place.. ( had to fight it a bit ). Onthe NAA that trick wasn't working so I rolled the boot back on itself.. slid it up to the lip.. and with a bit of bad language and sweat.. rolled it back over the lip. On the 2n neither of those worked.. so I boiled it for a few seconds in a water pot on the propane burner in the shop.. quickly popped it on.. ( was a bit loose ). but it shrank to fit in seconds and fits like a glove now... If I ever do another one.. I'll try boiling it first again.. was the easiest way so far. Soundguy
