52 8N Engine Rebuild complete

Well after about 2.5 months, the saga of rebuilding the engine on my '52 8N is complete (or at least complete to the running point!). I still need to get the hood painted (and painting the remainder of the tractor will hopefully happen this summer), but was able to fire it up, and actually plow the driveway (since it seems like Mother Nature is confused in Montana and thinks it's December and not April).

Anyway to refresh everyone's memory, I started with a hard staring condition, and lots of blow-by. This lead to a compression test showing about 70 (67-75 was the range) lbs of compression. So I started the rebuild with this board's help (and especially GB in MT's help).

Over the past couple of months I was able to do a full rebuild (new sleeves, pistons, bearings, etc), painting the engine/front end components as I went. Fortunately the crank didn't need to be turned. The progress was slow, cleaning and painting parts (who knew that much grease/oil could accumulate over nearly 60 years!), waiting for parts (and tools), as well as the weather to cooperate (not fun working in the garage when it's below zero), but finally last week, I was able to fire it up for the first time.

The first startup was a bit nerve wracking since it took some cranking to get started (as well as me learning to feather the choke much more than before the rebuild). However now it starts very well (still 6 volts, just keeping with the clean/bright/tight mantra), has no noticeable blow by, and the power is very noticeably increased.

Anyway, sorry for the long post, just wanted to share my excitement at having the 8N running again. I'm attaching the before a couple of in progress, and an "almost finished" picture.
