Well, I got some good advice and equipment from my very helpful mechanic down the road - first, after looking at the valves he said they were (I will leave out the swear words) still fine and were seating fine, he put them to the wire wheel and they cleaned up great. Lent me a ring compressor for putting the pistons in and....after I was complaining about how difficult one valve was to compress down, dug into some back room and came back with a long bar with forks at each end and a half moon disc on the end too - said this was an original ford tool to get them out!
Said to just clean them up good, get some new seals and them lap them and put it all back...."its a ........tractor, not a race car, it will be fine...!"
Here is my question....Just how strong is the main block - I inserted the end of the bar into the manifold opening and it easily compressed three of the remaining valves, however one is in there real tight.....I am terrified of breaking the block...is that a possibility? Any hints to get this one out which is hanging in there? Can I compress the spring instead and get the retainer out that way?
I hope they have the rubbers seals at the yt tractor store and going to pick up the rope seals for the sump at the same time....
