I don't know if you are going the original route or if you just want functionality but I used two ammo cans and mounted them using the big fender bolts...they work well. I put one facing the front of the tractor with my tools and one facing the rear of the tractor with hitch pins, a clevis and a small chain. They are also mounted according to where I access them the most with the front facing one on the left and the rear facing one on the right as you sit on the tractor.
