I'm not a trained welder (learned on my own). I found an answer to finding my way in the dark by using a 500w work light placed close to my work and using my daughter's sidewalk chalk to mark where I want to start my weld. That chalk reflects the light real well and is quite visable under the hood. I'm looking at getting one of those projector type driving lights that they are pushing for cars these days. You can get a cheap one that puts out a lot of light but won't stand up to all the rain and small rocks they have to face on the road (no problem with welding though.) I figure they could stand farther away from my work area and still spotlight my work.
