..well here's some food for thought..I had this old Dodge truck at the farm and it got to be terrible to start,finally I suspected the starter and I stopped at the junk yard and got a used starter for$25. I installed the starter and the truck starts like new. The old starter was drawing so much current away from the ignition that it wasn't getting enough to fire. In your case I would check the draw the starter is taking,simply because a bad coil should be bad all the time when its hot..it shouldn't start the tractor by pulling..BUT it does..so maybe you got too much current going to the starter function.
