I think Sunday did it for me.
Garden has been "mud-ball wet" all spring- and Sunday we had 1.04 inches of rain (.01 short of all time record for one day in May, here). Pond is back up, garden is way past mud-ball, and I think I'm going to give up on garden this year.
We've got "La Nina" off the coast- large cell of cold water, just sitting there, making our weather cold. Same as last year. I did finally put in a garden last year, but it was a fiasco. Just too cold to get anything.
I may till about half of it when it finally gets dry enough, and just put in cold weather crops- carrots, brocolli, beets, cabbage, and call it good. No use wasting time or effort for the warm weather stuff. We won't get enough heat units to get it to maturity. That's what happened last year, and this year is rolling out exactly the same.
Climate change seems to be going the wrong way, for me. Reminds me of a cartoon I saw some years back- several people in a circle, barely discernable in a snowstorm, holding their arms high, with spray cans in their hands. "The hearty residents of Chillblain, Minnesota try to help global warming along a little bit."

I was born and raised in Brooklyn, New York. Not a place one would associate with farms or farm machinery. I credit my parents for instilling a lot of good values, a respect for learning, a knowledge of various skills and a little knowledge of farming in me, amo
