Not really sure on this one, but I think the original valve clearance wass adjusted by grinding the end of the valve stems. There were aftermarket adjustable lifters available so it may have been changed. Guys on the Ford forum can help more. If the valves are sticking a bit you may be able to free them up with applications of Berrymans B12 solvent to the valves while the engine is idling. I've used it a couple of times with good success. It really will flush off the sludge from not changing oil often enough. Get it at Wal-Mart.
