I think I would be questioning the quality of that new cover, or maybe you tightened the bolts TOO tight and warped it?
I have no idea of ANY metal cover below the carburetor on an M. Unless it is a patch someone put on there to cover up a hole in the block caused by a connecting rod trying to escape?
