I assume it's a MFWD since you say the front wheels stopped driving.... If that's the case it could be a bearing failure or simply broken bolts in the ring gear inside the hub. That's not to say that the king pins couldn't drop out but I think it's very unlikely. Hub failures on those things are expensive. This one sounds particularly so... A picture would say a thousand words right now.
