Myself I would rather have a NH499 or NH1411. The JD 1424 is not a bad machine but it really narrows up the hay too much for good curing. I also don"t like the auger machines. If you plug them you are in for a job getting them unplugged. Used parts would be hard to come by too. Not many of the JD1424 ever made.
I assume you are in Nebraska by your handle. Are you in the dry land part or the irrigated part? If you are in the dry land part then the narrow windrow would not be as big of a problem.
