Tweetsie and Ghost Town are both great attractions. There used to be "The Land of Oz", which was based on "The Wizard of Oz". I believe they only open up for a few days in fall, now. I included a link to their website below. They are located near Beech Mountain and Emerald Mountain. Near Tweetsie Railroad (really right around the corner) is a small place called Mystery Hill. It is a nice attraction if you are going to be in that area.
While these are all nice places, the park you are thinking of may be Carowinds. We went a while back, and it is a nice place. They have a whole lot of roller coasters, as well as some other attractions. They recently installed a new "Intimidator" coaster (based on Dale Earnhardt) that is supposed to be really good. Carowinds is fairly small, but larger than Tweetsie Railroad.
There is a Busch Gardens in Virginia, and it was nice the last time we went (a long time ago). You might want to consider that.
There is a Kings Dominion park in Richmond, but I didn't care for it last time (5 years ago). It was laid out poorly, and the crowd was kind of trashy. They may be worth looking into, but Busch Gardens and Carowinds were better, in my opinion.
These are the attractions that I thought of off the top of my head. There are plenty more options that are worth exploring!
