its depends on what your feeding,but 50lbs would be sort of an average if your feeding grain.cubes would probably take less,chops more simply because they would pack more i would think.a bushel is a measure of space so to speak,what will fit in a bushel basket,weight depends on what you put in it.a bushel of concrete would be heavy!if it helps any,i put almost three 40 lb sacks of corn in my deer feeder made of a 15 gallon drum.check on buying your feed by the ton at your local coop,its cheaper than buying sacks.buy a ton,have them sack and pick it up as you need it.return your sacks and its even cheaper.you must be feeding a lot of hogs,to need a 40 bushel feeder.if you dont have that many,might be better off not letting it set in a feeder and just fill it part way.
