Did any of you go yet??? I had not gone for ten years or more. A neighbor that just quit milking wanted to go. He never had the time while milking. It was a perfect day since it was cool. The Cattleman"s grounds are a good place for the show. There where many interesting tractors there.
I was struck by a few things there: 1) There where very few people there today. I know it is Friday and many are working but it was very lightly attended. Parked right across from the gate and walked right in. 2) The average age of the owners I bet is over fifty-five or sixty. One fellow had a real nice original GP on steel with a four row cultivator. He had given $12500 for the tractor and another $500 for a correct hood/ fuel tank. It ran like a Swiss watch but if some younger blood does not get involved that tractor may sell the next time for $1250. Who in the younger crowd is going to want these high priced collectible tractors???? 3) There where fewer tractor there too. I know that the market is down but where are the current owners at???
I wondered if the attitude of some of the club members is finally keeping people away??? I have had run ins with the Correction police type of them. Big reason I had not gone in so long.
I was showing one of them a picture of a JD 4440 high crop that is on this dairy farm in Wisconsin. They us it to push the solid manure up to the pumps in their manure lagoon. The Two cylinder guy argued with me that they never made a JD 4440 high crop with a cab. Well it is funny that this farm owns two. I had pictures of them both. But he just had to be right and I was wrong. LOL Kind of makes me think of some snotty art collector arguing his painting of flying paint splashes is priceless.

Today's Featured Article - 12-Volt Conversions for 4-Cylinder Ford 2000 & 4000 Tractors - by Tommy Duvall. After two summers of having to park my old 1964 model 4000 gas 4 cyl. on a hill just in case the 6 volt system, for whatever reason, would not crank her, I decided to try the 12 volt conversion. After some research of convert or not, I decided to go ahead, the main reason being that this tractor was a working tractor, not a show tractor (yet). I did keep everything I replaced for the day I do want to restore her to showroom condition.
